FPL make decision over what will happen after Bournemouth vs Luton abandonment

Premier League fans have received an update on fantasy proceedings after Tom Lockyer's cardiac arrest at Bournemouth.

The Luton captain was in the thoughts of fans across the country after collapsing on the field during Saturday's trip to the Vitality Stadium. The Hatters provided an update 24 hours later to say their star was still undergoing tests at hospital in an attempt to get to the root of the issue.

In such a time of distress, fantasy football is a minor concern when a person's health is at risk. However, the Premier League staple has issued an update hinting at what may lie in store for the fixture.

Luton have been at the centre of a fight to avoid the relegation places so far this season, and their match at Bournemouth could have a huge bearing on the quest for survival. Elijah Adebayo opened the scoring on the south coast before Dominic Solanke equalised, with the game called off at 1-1 after being stopped in the 65th minute.

FA rules state: "An abandoned match is replayed unless the competition rules or organisers determine otherwise. In the event of a competition match not being played or abandoned owing to causes over which neither club has control, it should be played in its entirety on a date to be mutually agreed by the two clubs and approved by the competition."

Saturday's scenes were especially emotional for the travelling supporters after Lockyer previously collapsed on the field in May. The Hatters captain went down without contact during the Championship play-off final against Coventry and was rushed to hospital.

And it appears that will be the case after the Fantasy Premier League X (formerly Twitter) account posted: "Gameweek 17 will remain open after the conclusion of Sunday’s matches. More information will follow in due course."

There's yet to be any indication as to when a replay could materialise with the fixture expected to be replayed in full.

The Cherries have also been part of the dogfight at the bottom end of the table after a rough start to the season under Andoni Iraola. However, Solanke has helped inspire a resurgence and climb up the ranks, with Saturday's leveller going down as his fifth finish in six outings.
